MATT COLLINS was born as Karlo Metikoš on February 8, 1940 in Zagreb, Croatia (ex-Yugoslavia). Studied to become a classical pianist but got absorbed into rock and roll in 1956 via couple of singles (Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Little Richard) that he got as a present with an imported record player. Finding replacement needles for western gramophones was next to impossible in 50's Yugoslavia so he had to improvise with ordinary sewing needles to cater for his hunger for music. Needles to say he played those few precious records to the bone. Got his first paying job in 1958 in a cabaret show. Since nobody in the management knew nothing about rock and roll they simply filed him under negro spirituals and made him wear black shoe polish makeup on stage. In 1959 he puts together a vocal group "Regal", and sings to French tourists in holiday resorts on the Adriatic coast. GRUPA 220 was formed in 1966, in Zagreb, Croatia (ex-Yugoslavia) with members of bands "Ehosi" and "Jutarnje zvijezde". They had their first gig in october the same year. In december they record their first song "Osmijeh" which becomes a big hit right away. Very soon they become one of the most popular bands in former Yugoslavia. Long hairs and "flower power" clothes attracted lot of young people. Flowers were the tickets for their concerts. In 1967 and 1968 Drago Mlinarec (vocal and guitar) composed music for two films "Protest" and "Tri sata ljubavi". They take part in "Zagreb 68" and "Split 68" festivals, and also first "Pop festival" in Zagreb. Grupa 220 released the first rock long play record in ex-Yugoslavia "Naši dani". DIEGO VARAGIĆ - Lutke (1965) EP

DIEGO VARAGIĆ is one of the most popular Yugoslav singers from the 1960s. He was born on the 12th of May, 1942 in Čajniče, Bosnia & Herzegovina. As a child he moved to Serbia, where he began his artistic career at the age of 12 in a choir (KUD "Železničar"). In 1961 he took part in the famous Radio Beograd show "Mikrofon je vaš". He studied English literature in Beograd and after a rather short singing career continued working in his main profession as teacher and journalist in Beograd. He has lived and worked in Italy since 1991. This is his most succesful EP from 1965.
